What is Whisperly?

Whisperly is a dictation app for the Mac, made by BlazedLabz. You hold a key, speak, and let go. Whisperly types what you said, cleaned up, wherever your cursor is, in any app. It is free for 5,000 words a week. Whisperly Pro, US$7.99 a month, has no weekly limit.

How is Whisperly different from the dictation built into macOS?

Whisperly works the same way in every app: hold one key, speak, let go. Then it cleans up what you said. It takes out ums, repeats and false starts, fixes the punctuation and tidies the text for the kind of app you are in. You can add your own words, your own shortcuts and your own rules.

Which apps does it work in?

Any app on your Mac with a place to type, such as mail, chat, documents, AI prompts, code and the terminal. The words land where your cursor is, and the clean-up changes with the kind of app you are in. If the words do not appear in an app, the support page has the fix.

Which languages does Whisperly understand?

English, today. Whisperly listens for English and writes English. Spanish and Mandarin are the next languages planned, and there is no date for them yet.

Which Macs does Whisperly run on?

Whisperly is made for Macs with Apple silicon and needs macOS 26.4 or later. The download is 8.7 MB. In setup you can download the larger speech model once, about 630 MB, or use Apple’s built-in model.

Does it run on Intel Macs?

Whisperly is made for Macs with Apple silicon. It is not tested on Intel Macs.

Does it run on Windows?

Whisperly for Windows is a beta. Windows 11, 64-bit. Whisperly for Windows is new and not finished. It dictates, and some parts of the Mac version are not in it yet. New builds come often. Download the newest one here.

Windows shows “Windows protected your PC” once, because the installer carries no signature yet. “More info”, then “Run anyway”. A PC with Smart App Control on blocks unsigned installers; Whisperly cannot install there until it is signed.

Which key do I hold?

The Globe key, also marked fn, at the bottom left of the keyboard. First set the two Globe key settings in System Settings to Do Nothing. If you would rather not, choose the right Option key or two keys of your own in Whisperly’s settings.

What does Whisperly cost?

Whisperly is free for 5,000 words a week. Whisperly Pro is US$7.99 a month or US$69 a year, and the first 14 days are free: you pay nothing on the day you start. Prices are in US dollars. Tax may be added at checkout where it applies. See the plans.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. Whisperly is free for 5,000 words a week, with the clean-up, your own words and your shortcuts. The week starts again every Monday. A dictation that starts under the limit always finishes, so you are never cut off in the middle of a sentence.

What does Whisperly Pro add?

No weekly limit. Your own writing styles: named styles with your own rules. Whisperly calls them kinds. And fixing by voice: say “delete that”, “capitalise that” or “undo” right after a dictation. On the Mac you buy Pro on this site and turn it on with a licence key.

How do I turn on Pro on my Mac?

After you pay, you get a licence key. Paste it into Whisperly’s settings on your Mac, and Pro is on. The key is for the Macs and Windows PCs of the person who bought it, and it is on every payment receipt from Stripe, from the first paid one on. Pro for Mac does not turn on Pro on the iPhone.

How do I cancel?

On the Mac, open the manage page. It takes you to Stripe’s billing page, which asks for the email you paid with and emails you a code. On the iPhone, cancel in the Subscriptions of your Apple Account: the support page has the steps.

What happens when I cancel Pro?

Pro stays on until the end of the time you paid for. Cancel within the 14 free days and you pay nothing. When Pro ends, Whisperly goes on with the free plan: 5,000 words a week.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Ask within 14 days of a payment and you get the money back, no questions. Ask on the support page. If you bought Pro on the iPhone, Apple handles the payment, so the refund goes through Apple.

Do I get a receipt?

Yes. You can see every receipt on Stripe’s billing page, through the manage page. From the first paid one on, each receipt carries your licence key.

Your voice and the internet

Does Whisperly work offline?

On the Mac, yes, once it is set up. Setup needs the internet once, to get the speech model. After that, speech becomes text on your Mac, and on macOS 26 the clean-up runs on your Mac too. Whisperly Pro renews its licence about once a week, and offline it keeps working for up to a month.

Where does my voice go?

On the Mac, your voice is turned into text on your Mac. Recordings are not kept, unless you turn on the setting that keeps the recording of a dictation you fixed. On an iPhone with iOS 27, the clean-up sends the text to Apple’s Private Cloud Compute by default, never the audio. The privacy policy has the details.

Why does macOS ask for three permissions?

Whisperly needs the microphone to hear you while you hold the key. It needs Input Monitoring to notice the key. It needs Accessibility to type the words into other apps. Setup asks for each one in turn and opens the right page of System Settings.

How do I install Whisperly?

Download the disk image from the download page and open it. Drag Whisperly to the Applications folder, then open Whisperly. Setup asks for three permissions and offers the speech model. Whisperly is signed and notarised by Apple.

Is there an iPhone app?

Yes, it is coming to the App Store. It is a keyboard with a microphone key: tap it, speak, tap it again. It needs iOS 26.4 or later. On the iPhone, Whisperly Pro is bought in the app, through Apple.

How do I get help?

The support page answers the common problems and says how to report one. You can also ask on the Whisperly Discord server, which is public.
